Last night we the people elected Barack Obama as the next President of the United States. While I voted for Obama and think he was the most promising of the two major candidates I have to put a little perspective on the moment. This felt very much like watching the first pick in a sports draft. The first pick is always someone with incredible talent, skills and promise...lots and lots of promise(s). Keep in mind though that it is the team with the worst record that picks first. Obama has the talent, has the skills and has the promise. Now he is charged with leading a once proud but failing franchise back to the promised land. We are most certainly in a rebuilding year and made our pick to help speed the process along. We must, however, realize that a rebuilding year usually turns into rebuilding years. Although last night's election was historic it did not make the career of the President-Elect. Nobody gets into the Hall of Fame by being the #1 pick. We've only handed you the ball Mr. Obama, now show us what you've got.
